STRUGGS edition by Brad Hecht Children eBooks

This is an exciting book for adults or kids. Lots of action on land and sea. The characters stories intertwine making this book a thriller and an action-adventure. The historic part of the book is glossed over and is nothing more than a backdrop for a coming of age story. And boy do these characters come of age! Wimps become heroes, neglected kids come alive & goody two shoes kids eat anything to stay alive one more day.

This book is written like a movie the chapters go from scene to scene smoothly. I love the character of Melba she is realistic, sarcastic and tough. I love the 'famous' fight scene with Melba & Lord Rawdon. I wish there were more scenes with Melba and Shadow. I know that there was no way for the author to finish off their romance because of their ages. I am guessing that the author has another book in mind in which he will continue the story. Josh, John and Wade are a riot their dialogue is perfect, funny and heartwarming. Reds & Knuckles are almost singular of mind but add a depth to the tale. Mr. Lee is the comedy relief of the book and if this becomes a movie then Jackie Chan has to be in it.

The character of O'Neil reminds me of my grand-pop with the fantastic stories at bedtime. I love this character and I hope to see O'Neil in other books too.

Struggs, like another reviewer wrote does have hidden means and makes one think of their own actions in life. Struggs should be required read for middle school because of the lessons learned. I would definitely read another book from this author.

STRUGGS edition by Brad Hecht Children eBooks Reviews

This book is wonderful adventure from beginning to end! The story is a thrilling blend of fiction, mixed in with real events and historical figures during the time period of the American revolution in occupied Boston. The author creates a wide array of interesting and brave young hero's, harsh and cruel villains, and simply characters that make you care about their fate as they work towards building a better life, free from the oppression of the British. All ages can enjoy this tale which at times ranges from intense, to funny, to emotional, to action packed. I would recommend Struggs to anyone looking for a great tale of adventure.
The year is 1775. British soldiers have invaded Boston, turning it into a very dangerous place to live. Especially if you're part of the rebellion. Even more so if you're a 13 year old kid. Most boys would just do what they can to stay out of trouble and stay alive. But John and his friends are not most boys. They choose to fight and help defeat the British anyway they can on land and on the high seas. The action is intense. The story is a blast. And the author truly makes you feel like you're living in the time period. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for kids and adults. Nicely done!
I loved the book STRUGGS it is a fast moving adventure set in British Occupied Boston 1775. John, what can I say about John? As another reviewer wrote 'poor John' the author puts John through some nasty things but John comes through with colors flying. Melba is amazing, she is funny, strong & inspiring. She is a great hero for women of all ages. O'Neil best pirate of all time--- By by Capt. Jack. I'm not going to give away any of the story. The book is fast-paced and does not disappoint. This book needs to be part of; Books Across America. Great job Mr. Hecht. My review 5 stars A+.
STRUGGS is one heck of a good book, the characters and story flow smoothly through the course of the year 1775. Plenty of action. Lots of character development. The prose was well written and did not disappoint. I hated Lord Rawdon which made the book better because he gets pummeled by a girl named Melba. O'Neil, Reds and Knuckles are the perfect complement of brains, brawny and clumsiness. None of the other reviewers talked about Wade, I'm not sure why; he is John's younger brother he is a snappy talking smart Alec. I agree with everyone else when I say poor John. To the author, Brad Hecht shame on you for hurting John. I know you read your reviews because I saw your comments. You better not hurt John in the next book. Buy this book. A++
I loved the Book STRUGGS it is well written with lessons about life and choices.

O'Neil is the best character in the book, part pirate, part patriot & one heck of a storyteller. John has one heck of a ride in this book and I couldn't tell if the author hated the character or loved him. (If this book becomes a movie I feel sorry for the actor who will play him.) I hated Lord Rawdon and wished the author did more damage to him. The fencing scene against Melba & Lord Rawdon was brilliant & very witty. George Washington & Henry Knox were perfect. I wonder if they really went to scout enemy lines by themselves. Josh, John and Wade bringing the cannons back from Fort Ticonderoga made me laugh, 'when your feet smell like corn it's time to wash them'….Great line. Shadow, what can I tell you about Shadow? His archery skills were perfect his lady skills were, well not so good. From what I can tell on , it looks like this was the authors first book…And what a book. Buy this book. Read this book. You will NOT be disappointed.

A++
Struggs is a powerful book. It is a coming of age with an historic setting British occupied Boston, to be exact. The year is 1775. the setting is great and the characters are even better. The action is intense and the author's humor is second to none.

I read another reviewer that said that you have to live inside this book and that you can't multi-task while reading this book, well why would you want to multitask with such a great book in your hand? It is true there are a lot of characters in this book but that only makes the book better, in my opinion. The book is written in third person, but you still get a feel for each character. You will get a feel for not only Boston, but the Caribbean and Upstate New York. There is ship to ship action, too. It's enough to satisfy, but not like a Patrick O'Brian novel. The focus is mostly on the orphans and the privateers, and what they go though to make America free from the British. Read it -- just read it. You won't be disappointed!
