Let me start with a confession - I am a huge Alexandra Ivy fan. I snatched this up as soon as it came across my feed. When I received it, I tore open the package, sat in my chair, and didn't move until I had finished it.

In Kill Without Mercy, we are introduced to Ares Security, formed by a group of ex-military men who developed a deep bond while they were held prisoner in Afghanistan. There is little I love more than a Band Of Brothers, and the Ares boys are definitely brothers. They care about each other, and have each other's backs in all things.

So Rafe has to go back home to deal with his grandfather's estate. He meets Annie, who is trying to find some closure from events that happened in her childhood. It becomes immediately apparent that Annie's past is coming back to haunt her, and Rafe steps up to keep her safe.

I loved how strong Annie was, and how she just kind of broke down in relief when she realized Rafe actually believed her visions. (Yes, there is a teensy paranormal aspect to the story. If you don't care for paranormal, I wouldn't let it put you off. It is not a main focus of the plot) I felt their attraction to each other plainly. Rafe is a gentle alpha, determined to keep Annie out of the line of fire.

The story was fast paced and well written. I kind of had an idea of the villain, but the reality was much more interesting that my guess.

Kill Without Mercy is the first in Ms. Ivy's new series, Ares Security. Like most first-in-a-series books, there is some level of setup, introduction of characters, a bit of backstory, etc. All of these details were teased out over the course of the book, not given in one big info dump. I am now salivating to get my paws on the other Ares members books!

Well I stayed up late last night finishing Kill Without Mercy (Ares Security Book 1) and while it was intriguing it was 4 Stars at best, the story did keep you glued but at the same time some of it was obviously predictable, I should say a LOT of it was not but the writing seemed a bit repetitive.

The problem with ARCs is that sometimes things that bother you are not in the final published version. At least 4 times a character would talk about something they had never been told, a bit minor but distracting, nothing that really impacted the plot. I will probably give it 4 Stars since I don't typically stay up to 2 AM reading 3 Star books but the overall series plotline is nothing new. Old Army buddies band together to form a "security" company, etc , etc. I do think I will continue to read this series.

Just so you know there is a bare touch of paranormal in visions and intuition that goes a bit more than normal but I thought it added to the story, some folks want total realism.

Bottom Line I enjoyed it, it was not awe inspiring but i DID stay up late to finish it (I really DON'T do that very often) so if you want a touch of paranormal, a ton of macho and some serial killers and by the end it seemed like she thought everybody shared some blame, this is your book. If you don't overthink it, you WILL enjoy it.
How do you not love five hunky, gorgeous, alpha, talented male hero, special ops guys who come to the rescue of one lovely damsel in distress? Pretty impossible right?

Annie White is having dreams, actually, she's had them her whole life, ever since her father killed seven women by slitting their throats, he was placed in jail and was murdered eight hours later. It is fifteen years since the serial murders but the dreams if anything are becoming more insistent, she needs to solve the mystery since she can't remember much of what occurred. She returns to the sleepy farm town where it all took place only to find that women are once more disappearing. Since her father is dead, is it a copycat or is it possible her father wasn't the killer? She needs to know, but knowing is about to make her the target.

Rafe Vargas is not happy to be in Newton, Iowa to clean out the effects of his detested grandfather's house after his death, but he needs to sell it and then he'll never step foot in Iowa again. He has a new business to launch, Ares, along with his five military brothers and this sidetrack is nothing but a pain in the ass. The last thing he expected is to meet Annie and be drawn into her troubles, but hell what's a guy to do, she's perfect and he can't resist.

Well, 'that about sums it up, see if you can resist reading about Annie and Rafe and solving the mystery with them.
